Stats Analysis – Indian pace trio under Dhoni vs. Kohli

A look at the stats of India’s pace trio comprising of Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami under M. S. Dhoni and Virat Kohli tells us a compelling story.

The Indian pace attack has come a long way to become the best pace attack in the world at present. As Indian fans, this is a stuff of dreams considering that the spinners have dominated in the Indian conditions for ages.

Such domination not only comes as a refreshing change but also as something that we can be excited about going into the future. The domination of the Indian spinners was understandably a lot more in sub-continental conditions than overseas.

But with the fast bowlers ruling the roost, we possess an attack which is potent for any condition anywhere in the world.

From the outset, it clearly shows how effective the Indian pacers have been under the aggressive leadership of Kohli. Add Jasprit Bumrah to this formidable Indian pace attack and things look even more different.

Under Dhoni:

One thing to take a note of is that all the three fast bowlers came into the Indian setup with not such a massive reputation behind them like in the case of Bumrah.

Shami and Bhuvneshwar made their debut under Dhoni and they weren’t matured and lethal enough. Till an extent, Dhoni’s diminishing aggression as a captain and his tactfulness also played a part.

Under Kohli:

Kohli deserves all the plaudits because of his sheer aggression as a captain and the freedom he has allowed the bowlers.

Making fitness a priority has also been a contributing factor. All the three bowlers are fairly aggressive bowlers by nature and in Kohli, they have found a perfect match.
